NIH Common Fund Metabolomics Program Overview
The intent of NIH Common Fund programs is to provide a strategic and nimble approach to address key roadblocks in biomedical research that impede basic scientific discovery and its translation into improved human health. In addition, these programs capitalize on emerging opportunities to catalyze the rate of progress across multiple biomedical fields.
The NIH Common Fund Metabolomics program is designed to increase national capacity in metabolomics by
- supporting the development of next generation technologies to enhance the sensitivity and speed with which specific elements of the cellular metabolome can be identified and quantified
- providing training and mentoring opportunities
- increasing the inventory of chemically identifiable metabolites through the synthesis and availability of high quality reference standards
- promoting data sharing and collaboration
