Collection Summary: | Saliva samples were collected from 30 non smokers and 30 smokers. Participants were instructed to observe a two-hour fast without eating, smoking or drinking followed by a thorough rinsing of the mouth to presvent any sample contamination. Subjects were instructed to allow saliva to pool in the bottom of the mouth and drain it into sterile collection tubes. The samples were transferred to the lab in ice containers and centrifuged at 2500 rpm for 5 minutes at 4°C to remove cell debris, and the supernatants stored at 80°C until analysis. |
