TR:TREATMENT_SUMMARY             	Maize plants were subjected to two irrigation treatments. The first treatment
TR:TREATMENT_SUMMARY             	was soil moisture dry-wet cycles, which was obtained using drip irrigation
TR:TREATMENT_SUMMARY             	(control, DW). The second treatment was negative pressure to stabilize soil
TR:TREATMENT_SUMMARY             	water content treatment (SW), which was obtained using the negative pressure
TR:TREATMENT_SUMMARY             	irrigation (NPI) system.
#SAMPLEPREP
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	Collected samples were thawed on ice, and metabolites were extracted from 20 µL
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	of each sample using 120 µL of precooled 50% methanol buffer. Next, the mixture
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	of metabolites was vortexed for 1 min, followed by incubation for 10 min at room
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	temperature, and storing at -20°C overnight. On the next day, the mixture was
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	centrifuged at 4,000 g for 20 min and the supernatant was subsequently
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	transferred to 96 well plates. Samples were stored at ‐80°C prior to the
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	LC‐MS analysis. Pooled quality control (QC) samples were also prepared by
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	combining 10 μL of each extraction mixture
