However, the exact mechanisms of CRC are not well established. ST:STUDY_SUMMARY Furthermore, there may be differences between mechanisms of CRC in the Asian and ST:STUDY_SUMMARY in the Western populations. In the present study, we utilized a liquid ST:STUDY_SUMMARY chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) metabolomic approach supported by the ST:STUDY_SUMMARY 16S rRNA next-generation sequencing to investigate the functional and ST:STUDY_SUMMARY taxonomical differences between paired tumor and unaffected (normal) surgical ST:STUDY_SUMMARY biopsy tissues from 17 Malaysian patients. Metabolomic differences associated ST:STUDY_SUMMARY with steroid biosynthesis, terpenoid biosynthesis and bile metabolism could be ST:STUDY_SUMMARY attributed to microbiome differences between normal and tumor sites. The ST:STUDY_SUMMARY relative abundances of Anaerotruncus, Intestinimonas and Oscillibacter displayed ST:STUDY_SUMMARY significant relationships with both steroid biosynthesis and terpenoid and ST:STUDY_SUMMARY triterpenoid biosynthesis pathways. Metabolites involved in serotonergic ST:STUDY_SUMMARY synapse/ tryptophan metabolism (Serotonin and 5-Hydroxy-3-indoleacetic acid ST:STUDY_SUMMARY [5-HIAA]) were only detected in normal tissue samples.
