Our ST:STUDY_SUMMARY multicenter study involved sample collection from women undergoing laparoscopic ST:STUDY_SUMMARY surgery. The metabolomic profiles of plasma samples obtained from 73 women with ST:STUDY_SUMMARY endometriosis and 35 controls and peritoneal fluid (PF) samples from 53 women ST:STUDY_SUMMARY with endometriosis and 34 controls were analysed using mass spectrometry ST:STUDY_SUMMARY techniques. Statistical testing identified five lipids in PF and one in plasma, ST:STUDY_SUMMARY exhibiting significant differences between the endometriosis and control groups. ST:STUDY_SUMMARY Importantly, phosphatidylcholine (PC ae C30:2) level was consistently increased ST:STUDY_SUMMARY in both sample sources. Additional chemometric PLS-DA analyses identified a set ST:STUDY_SUMMARY of 20 metabolites present in PF and 26 compounds in plasma, which differentiate ST:STUDY_SUMMARY women with endometriosis and the control group among samples collected during ST:STUDY_SUMMARY the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle (AUC equal to 0.84 in PF and 0.95 in ST:STUDY_SUMMARY plasma). We also used a simple approach to build a classification model based on ST:STUDY_SUMMARY the sets of metabolites in combination with autoantibodies selected using ST:STUDY_SUMMARY protein microarrays from our previous study. The classification performance ST:STUDY_SUMMARY obtained on the joined metabolomic and proteomic feature sets exceeds that ST:STUDY_SUMMARY achievable for separate assays. As controls, we recruited patients without TR:TREATMENT_SUMMARY visible endometriosis during laparoscopy. In this study we analysed plasma TR:TREATMENT_SUMMARY samples obtained from 73 women with endometriosis and 35 controls and peritoneal TR:TREATMENT_SUMMARY fluid samples obtained from 53 women with endometriosis and 34 controls.
