| Study Title | Metabolome Changes of Megachile rotundata Across Pupal Stages Measured by Mass Spectrometry-Based Untargeted Metabolomics |
| Study Type | Discovery-based |
| Study Summary | Megachile rotundata pupal stages Prepupae (PP), Red Eye (RE), and Melanized (M) showed distinguishable metabolite profiles as measured by untargeted GCMS analysis. Metabolites associated with the different growth stages include amino acids, neurotransmitters, sugars, sugar phosphates, amino sugars, and sugar alcohols. Metabolic profiles between sexes within each growth stage were indistinguishable as measured in this study. |

| Project Title: | Metabolome Changes of Megachile rotundata Across Pupal Stages Measured by Mass Spectrometry-Based Untargeted Metabolomics |
| Project Type: | untargeted metabolomics |
| Project Summary: | Untargeted metabolomics measurements were conducted via Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) on both sexes, male and female, of the alfalfa leaf cutting bee, Megachile rotundata during three stages: Prepupae (PP), Red Eye Pupae (RE), and Melanized Pupae (ME). Focusing on the analysis of polar metabolites, results uncovered clear metabolic differences between the three stages of M. rotundata. However, metabolic profiles between sexes within each growth stage were indistinguishable. A total of 289 metabolite entities or features were tentatively identified between the three pupal stages studied. |

Collection:
| Collection ID: | CO004175 |
| Collection Summary: | Prepupae used in this study were purchased in April of 2020 (JWM Leafcutters, Nampa, ID) and stored upon arrival in Fargo (USDA-ARS Edward T. Schafer Agricultural Research Center) at 6°C, as previously described (Rinehart et al., 2011). To initiate development, bees were placed in 29°C with 75% humidity. Bees were sampled immediately prior to development, prepupae (PP), or allowed to develop to one of 2 growth stages of pupae classified as red-eye pupae (RE) or melanized pupae (ME). |
