Once in the laboratory, the blood tubes were centrifuged at 4000 g, 4 °C, for 10 min, and the plasma was stored at -80 oC for further characterization of the plasma metabolome. The frozen plasma was submitted to the University of California’s West Coast Metabolomics Center in Davis, CA for metabolome analysis
